JB- "MonkeyBoy" (Huntington Beach, CA USA):I'm a software developer and data engineer. I needed to cut down the compile times of a very large project I'm working on. I did 2 things that made this an amazing laptop. #1 I replaced the hard drive with a 512mb SSD drive. #2 I opted to upgrade the 4th gen Intel cpu to 3.7 GHz. It's wicked fast. It's quiet. It's great on battery life. The software shipped with the product installed by HP is not annoying like Dell's software. The screen is beautiful. The beats audio sound system is great. The graphics card runs my 2 monitor setup perfect and is snappy. Whatever cpu you choose, just make sure it's the 4th generation (I'm pretty sure all HP Envy's at the moment are).

Vohmeanin Egor (Moldova) :Got this notebook for a month about. In general it is very cool, fast, beatiful and impressive, BUT yesterday WEB-camera stopped working. I had to read a lot of forums about resolving this issue. Half people says that it's software bug but another one says that it is hardware ill. I tried only one option which look more preferable: Turn off PC - un-plug battery - push power button for 15 seconds - put battery back and turn on PC -> issue resolved. I very hope that it will not happen again - because I feel myself very unpleased when you spend >1200$ and WEBcamera become unavailable.

Tanya M Reyes (san francisco):I wish this had a non-matte/anti-glare screen like they used to have. And that the touchpad was centered to the machine and not the 10key layout.

Those two things aside this was a sweet little machine and a great addition to my equipment. I'm a videographer so I often have programs for movie making, conversion and photo editing open and working at the same time. iTunes or Netflix is usually running too, so its a lot! but the processor is fast and it hasnt crashed or faltered once. Very happy so far.

Michael :I bought it from staples.com when the price was about $450. After two weeks, the machine keeps crashing when I play videos (e.g.,YouTube, hulu, Netflix), probably due to overheating. I have to return it though the price was pretty good.

The only issue I had was the driver, which wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet. After a simple fix (this laptop has the ability to turn the driver off, which is the default setting) everything was running great.

As for Windows 8, it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. While it would be nice to have a start button on the desktop (which will be added in the next update of Windows 8), it's not too hard to get used to. Sometimes when you're moving around on the mouse pad it'll open up the side bar on the right, which is can be annoying, but is easily fixed by getting a wireless mouse.

With Windows 8, I have to say that I enjoy how on the start menu it has all of the applications shown, as well as any updates that the app may have.

bkabat:I was a little bit nervous purchasing this laptop considering the specs listed on amazon's site are different. The top of the page says the computer has Windows NT operating system and the bottom said Windows 8. I took a chance and ordered the computer and I LOVE it.

Its very fast and picture quality is amazing. I love that it has an HDMI output. My only computer only had VGA. The difference in streaming video on the computer and onto the tv is amazing.

Windows 8 is taking a little while to get used to. I was using Windows 7 previously but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

The laptop is light weight, sleek and the keyboard feels good on your hands. Overall I def recommend this product. I think everyone

Used exclusively for work to demonstrate videos and photos to customers... play internet radio. It's fast enough with adequate memory and speed for what I use it for. Arrived on time (Prime is worth getting if you use Amazon a lot pay over $80 in shipping a year).

This is my 2nd HP and the other (HP G6) is still doing fine (8GB RAM)... I upgraded to 8GB RAM through Crucial [dot ]com and it runs over 12 hours a day and has been doing so since Fall of 2011. This model (4GB RAM) is capable of 8GB RAM for even better performance. Note that this comes with Windows 8 and I think runs better than my G6 where I upgraded from Win 7.

Open the access area... battery compartment or entire bottom of the laptop, locate where the RAM slot is, remove the existing module by pressing down on the retaining clips, remove the module, get the new module and line up the notch in the row of metal pins at the bottom of your module with the key in the SODIMM slot on your motherboard. (If the notch doesn't line up right away, flip your module around and try it the other way. It doesn't matter which side of your module has the black chips or the stickers on it. The important thing is to line up the notch.)

came with windows 8, biggest mistake of my life. win 7 was the easiest o/s to work with, win 8 is designed by son dumbs--t who doesn't understand how hard it is to change habits learned on older machines. you gotta hunt to find what you need, caution, it may not be in the new o/s. touch the wrong spot on the touch pad, it takes you hither and yon. the capping pain in the a-- is turning off the computer, they want you to hibernate instead, gotta go thru a buncha steps and screens to power down!!
last minor complaint, shell is gloss black, finger print city.

HP Pavilion g6-2210us 15.6-Inch Discount

Joseph Sullivan (Binghamton, NY United States) :I had an hp pavilion from 2007 and decided to stay with the line because of the four good years I got out of that hp computer. I purchased this pavilion because it was(at the time) under 400 dollars. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but I haven't experienced many frustrations once I downloaded chrome. Firefox and Internet Explorer did have some strange issues and once in a while took some time to open(which I think is a windows 8 issue) so I downloaded chrome, adobe flash, open office and have been using my new computer mostly hassle free.

I would recommend this computer to anyone who is going on the internet, word processing, streaming videos, and saving pictures and movies. I don't know if it's good for gaming or putting together videos. I wouldn't pay the 450 or whatever price it is now for this computer due to some of the hardware limitations.

leslie benjamin (MONTE RIO, CA, US):This laptop is awesomely fast and terribly pretty to look at. Plenty of computer for a student or home office, with pretty good gaming capabilities too. Boots up like lightning, shuts down without a bunch of questions, and never gets hot due to the HP cooling feature. A little big for your lap on a bus, but I have a small lap. lol Windows 8 has a glitch or two, but I think I like it and they stay on top of it, update-wise.. If you want something really familiar, go with XP or Windows 7.

JavrSmith:This computer has been very reliable. The keyboard keys are a little small or shallow for fast typists. The touchpad keeps affecting typing. When you type, you might drag you thumb on the touchpad a bit. This moves the cursor sometimes which then changes the text insertion point. Result? Lots of typos that you have to go fix. Changing the touchpad sensitivity helps but it still happens a bit. Two fingered typists wouldn't notice.

 TreeburnerCT :As an Office Manager I spend a lot of time working on the computer, however for the last six months I've been using a 12-inch netbook for work. I finally got sick of the tiny type, and invested in the HP Pavilion 2270, and I'm really glad I did! Not only is the display beautiful, but Windows 8 is actually easier to adapt to than I expected. I did a lot of price comparing before buying, and for the price you can't go wrong with this laptop! The only downside in my opinion is the shiny finish - I much prefer a flat, dull finish that won't pick up fingerprints or debris as visibly, but that is only a minor annoyance on an otherwise awesome product!

I love the wide screen, pictures are clear and never had any problems since i received it. Webpages load up fairly quickly and downloading is fairly speedy also.I have been using HP laptops and desktops for years and would not buy another brand. I am really happy once again with my HP purchase.

stephen juharos:Shoppers all I can say is do your research on the HP Laptop G7 series. Lots of problems with Bios corruptions and other graphic viewing issues, hundreds on google. The whole line of HP laptops from the DV series including the G7's. Mine was a G7-2270- us and my wife's was a G7- 1260- US, both fatal problems at 12 months, mine bios failure, hers graphic chip came loose, both cost over 350 to fix, not worth it. Do your homework better than I did!

I was looking for an upgrade from my old laptop I had bought back in about 2007. It came with Windows 8, which I wasn't sure about. I feel that Windows 8 is very smooth so far.

Overall, this laptop has exceeded my expectations; the 6GB memory is exceptional, the i3 is fast enough for graphic work and programs were easy to install, media player runs beautifully, 750GB HD gives room to maneuver, and the screen is awesome! I am more than pleased with this purchase.

Jayhola :Same price but better CPU. Don't know why people still buy 2240us. Got one of this from staples. They want to sell 2240us so this one was even not displayed. I reserved online and finally got one. Good substitute to my Desktop. Collected to TV for 1080p movie. Collected to PS3 controller for Games. This computer does everything. So far so good.

now for people having problems with the dvd disc door opening, there is a very simple answer. You have to google an app called POWER 2 GO 8 , you can copy files
with this program , you have to restart for the program to work. You cannot miss the big icon on your desktop, at the bottom left left corner of the icon you will see an arrow,
click on the arrow and this opens a window for that program, you drag the files you want to copy to a disc by dragging them into this window, then hit the burn button , and use a r/ or rw disc. the best part is there is a triangular button in the upper tool bar of this window, click on this button and the computer disc
door will open with great ease, every time . It send a electrical signal and it works great. I really like this computer , still very new , so far so good.
and window 8 is good , just make sure you update windows 8 first, create a restore point, and make a back up disc , and install anti virus , before surfing the web. Hope all this helps someone.
Using this POWER 2 GO 8 software, you never have to try and open the disc door manually again.

OGK (MD) :I bought this online on cyber Monday. I got it last Friday. Really cool lap top but not impressed with W8
I am happy with the hardware. Its slim, battery life is over 6 hours, with average use. I am sure if you were playing videos or games, it may not be as much, but I figured you may be able to watch a movie start to end without battery running out. It's light, screen gets really smudgy with finger prints.
so GREAT LAPTOP for the price point that I bought it for.
It has 24 Gig SSD drive for quick boot times, which I don't think is in the spec.
It has a back lit key board. The mouse pad it one piece but and right and left click are built in to the pad, so you don't see separate buttons. The right scroll feature is turned off, so you have to go to the mouse settings under control panel to turn it on. I like the two finger scroll and two finger click to get right click menu.
I have noticed some issues with few apps crashing, and even during the initial set up W8 encountered an error and ran me through the initial set up the second time only to duplicate the user account on the computer.
Screen is really nice and crisp. Webcam is average.
Not a lot of fan noise, but then again there aren't a lot of vents on this either. I did NOT notice it running hot or anything. Also the battery is built in, so you can't just pop it out.

Del S (Arizona):Fantastic Windows 8 Touch Ultrabook by HP. Cyber-Monday was the perfect opportunity for this purchase. Our family purchased two of these devices. We would have purchased 3 but there was a limit. This laptop has all the performance and requirements you will need to do majority of computing tasks. Love the superfast 15 seconds Windows 8 boot up time...much thanks to the 32G hybrid mSSD cache. Benefit with a hybrid mSSD gives you more capacity with a traditional 500GB HD plus the ability to quickly start up your computer. This is the way to go for performance / capacity at a lower price. The Envy Touch Ultrabook does have some heft to it but not a deal breaker at all since the thin form factor design keeps it looking fresh and sleek. Build quality is well constructed. Backlit keyboard is a nice feature but the keys themselves could use some improvement. However, I did not have any trouble typing lengthy emails. Touch screen response is excellent and does not exhibit any lag or latency. Intel Core i3 performs well for web surfing, email, and multiple app operations. If you can get your hands on one of these HP Envy Ultrabooks I'd highly recommend getting one to start your Windows 8 touch experience.

Bill :What a laptop!! I have no idea what that other guy was talking about with the slow responding issue. This laptop is extremely fast!! I am able to play all sorts of games like minecraft and call of duty on nice settings. I will recommend this to anyone who wants a multimedia laptop! I was really happy with my purchase but I wish they had a back-lit keyboard included, not that big of a deal though.

Dave :I have the 15.6" version of this and its a great laptop for the price. The graphics card is integrated and runs on system RAM, meaning it will outperform many 1-2gb cards with dedicated RAM when the laptop demands more performance. The A10-4600m is a strong AMD CPU, able to compete with the comparablely priced Intel i3 & i5 CPUs. For gaming purposes, it will run almost all newer games at low-medium settings with antialiasing off. Older games 3+ years old all run at high-ultra settings, including games like Fallout 3/NV, Oblivion, Age of Empires 3, Bully, Company of Heroes, Lord of the Rings BFME2, and many others without issues. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a graphics intensive laptop for music and video editing, as well as gaming or just facebooking.

 Andrew Stull :I got this for family and for hobby Android software development. It seems to work great for both purposes. It all feels pretty snappy (certainly compared to the 10-year-old Pentium M that it's replacing, but also doesn't feel any more sluggish than my work i5-based laptop). For just plain web browsing, it's very decent (Browsermark 4530 with Chrome).

Development work:
It's fast enough to run the Kindle Fire HD emulator that I couldn't run on my old laptop. In hindsight for that purpose it would have been better to get an i5-based laptop so that I could use HAXM which needs the Intel variant of the virtualization extensions. Still, for Android emulation purposes I can run Bluestacks on it, and Bluestacks runs at a very nice speed (it must be using the AMD virtualization, as expected since they have a partnership with AMD).

B. Mason (USA):This is now my fourth HP laptop. My previous one's video card went out (Long story). I needed to get a quick replacement. I found this one to be one with specs that met/exceeded that one. HP laptops had an issue with heat; the new laptops have new cooling systems and a small cooling program that will save any files and shut down the laptop before it overheats. The icon is on the system tray.
I ordered from Amazon which arrived in 2 days; while I was at school. I hated being there while it arrived.

Computer Expert:I got this computer on clearance from Best Buy at $460 a month ago and I can only say that it is incredible value for the money. It comes with windows 8, but can be downgraded to windows 7. The display is huge and beautiful, I'm not sure what the other reviewer is talking about! The audio and video cards are very strong and the processor is one of the strongest AMD processors around. I would recommend this laptop to anybody who is looking for an all-around workstation that can also double as an entertainment center. What really makes it amazing is the price, though! A++++++++++

pay for a premium piece of glass and if you're not looking at it next to your desktop display you
may not notice.

Sammuel (Flushing, NY, US):A final note, what finally made me fall in love with this model was the surprise DVD encoding time using
ConvertX/DVD 5.0. On my previous i5 (2.3Mhz) with 6Gig Ram, whenever I would encode DVDs there was a problem
with overheating, maxed out CPU usage, and maxed out Ram....then POW, my laptop would shut down. Also
to encode 2.5-3G worth of video typically took 1 1/2 - 2 hours. On my first run today, this machine ripped
through 2 video files totaling 2.8G in 30 minutes! WHAT??? Thirty minutes at 100+fps, with no overheats
and even though the CPU was pegged at 98%, the system was still usable, it would lock up on that i5 machine.
For an APU this laptop is a beast! 4.5 Stars, I'm very happy.
